Announcing our new Executive Director – Carmen Boyko

Carmen brings over fifteen years of progressive non-profit/charitable experience to the Alberta Emerald Foundation. A strong relationship builder, Carmen has been described by her references as a good communicator, determined and effective in negotiations with strong fund development and management skills. She brings to the Executive Director position competencies in operations, administration, communications, education/peer support, gift solicitation, stewardship, budgeting, grant writing, event planning, prospect research, board management, and strategic and business development.

Carmen is coming to Alberta Emerald Foundation from YOUCAN Youth Services and has held positions with Canadian Liver Foundation, HIV Edmonton, Alberta Easter Seals and the Alberta SPCA. A graduate of NAIT’s Marketing Program, Carmen has also studied Leadership Skills with the University of Alberta.

Carmen’s passion for the non-profit world is evident, not only in her work with YOUCAN but also in her commitment to volunteerism. Carmen is the past president of the Alberta Association of Fund Raising Executives (AFFRE) and a current member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Edmonton & Area Chapter. She also works with Volunteer Edmonton to help other non-profits strengthen staff and volunteer relationships and Imagine Canada with reviewer support around non-profit Accreditation. She can often be found helping with special projects and committee work that supports her neighbourhood, struggling charities and local organizations. She is passing this passion and commitment on to her daughter, Taylor.
