The Recipient

The Off the Creek Landowners are community members from all over Red Deer County who have taken the initiative to adopt Better Management Practices (BMPs) for their riparian and native range areas. In the past five years, 36 range and riparian management fencing projects, 14 off-site watering projects, 3 creek crossing projects, 1 tree planting project, 1 buffer zone establishment project, 1 run-on/run-off management project, and 3 portable livestock shelter projects were completed. While the Alberta Conservation Association has supported the landowners by providing funding to help cover some of the costs of these projects, it is estimated that for every dollar received, the Off the Creek Landowners have put in up to two dollars, either as cash or as in kind contributions of labour, equipment or materials. Off the Creek Landowners are not required to complete these projects, demonstrating their commitment to improving the health of the land and waterways.
