Event Marketing Specialist (Summer Student Position)

This is a 10-week, full-time summer position funded by Canada Summer Jobs, offering hands-on experience in event coordination, communications, and digital marketing—all while celebrating and promoting environmental excellence across Alberta.

- $15/hr
- Remote (Alberta-based)
- The successful candidate must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment (as per Canada Summer Jobs requirements)
- Must be able to travel to Calgary from June 3rd to 5th for the 35th Annual Emerald Awards (travel and accommodations will be provided should the successful candidate be located outside of Calgary)
What You’ll Do:
In this role, you’ll be supervised and supported by our Communications & Engagement Specialist, Sabrina (Bri), who will provide regular check-ins and on-the-job training throughout the 10-week term.
Responsibilities will span event coordination, communications, and organizational support, with flexibility to adapt to evolving priorities.
Event Coordination & Planning
- Assist with the planning and logistics of the 35th Annual Emerald Awards in Calgary on June 4th, supporting the smooth execution of all aspects of the event
- Provide hands-on support during the event day, including setup, coordination, and other on-site tasks as needed in a fast-paced environment
- Support other event-related tasks as they arise, adapting to evolving needs throughout the planning and delivery process
Communications & Marketing
- Implement a communications plan to promote the awards, focusing on increasing public awareness of shortlisted candidates and event attendance.
- Provide live social media coverage during the ceremony, sharing real-time updates and engaging with online audiences.
- Execute a post-awards communications strategy to highlight recipients and their work, using blogs, newsletters, and social media platforms to maintain engagement.
- Support basic tracking and analysis of communications efforts to inform future strategies.
- Assist AEF’s Communications & Engagement Specialist in creating a post-awards impact report to communicate the success and impact of the event to stakeholders
Additional Administrative & Organizational Support
- Provide general administrative support to the Alberta Emerald Foundation team, assisting with day-to-day tasks as needed
- Support the organization and maintenance of digital files and internal systems to improve efficiency and accessibility
- Assist in updating and organizing contact lists, stakeholder databases, and internal documents
- Contribute to special projects that support AEF’s programs and operations, based on organizational priorities and capacity
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience working with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook)
- Basic knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and email platforms like Constant Contact
- Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva; Adobe Creative Suite, such as Illustrator) is an asset
- Enthusiastic about environmental issues, community building, and celebrating positive impact
- Experience in event coordination, marketing, or communications is an asset, but not required
- Strong written communication skills with attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently in a remote setting with regular team check-ins
- Organized and dependable, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Proactive and willing to take initiative, especially when working on independent or self-directed tasks
- Creative thinker with an interest in marketing, storytelling, and/or events
- Available to work the full 10-week contract (May – July), including in person on the day of the Emerald Awards in Calgary (June 4, 2026). Travel and accommodations will be provided should the successful candidate be located outside of Calgary
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria as outlined in the Canada Summer Jobs Articles of Agreement:
- is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, S.C. 2001, c. 27*; and
- is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
