ALBERTA’S ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERS RECOGNIZED IN EMERALD AWARDS SHORTLIST ANNOUNCEMENT

ALBERTA’S ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERS RECOGNIZED IN EMERALD AWARDS SHORTLIST ANNOUNCEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ALBERTA – Today, the Alberta Emerald Foundation (AEF) revealed the shortlist for the 31st Annual Emerald Awards.

Since 1992, the Emerald Awards have showcased over 350 recipients and 850 finalists who are raising the bar in addressing local, regional, and global environmental & climate issues. These environmental awards celebrate excellence across all sectors, making them unique not only in Alberta but also in Canada.

This year, the AEF received nominations from all corners of the province, each sharing a unique approach to environmental stewardship. A third-party panel of judges was tasked to review all submissions and select the shortlist and recipients.

29 projects and organizations were represented across 12 categories in this year’s shortlist. The winners will be announced at the 31st Annual Emerald Awards in Calgary at the Central Library on June 1, 2022, at 4 p.m. In addition to a certificate, Emerald Award recipients receive a profile of their work through documentaries, a podcast, and speaking opportunities, as well as a $2,000 grant to support the continuation of their work.

“We’re really excited for this year’s Emerald Awards,” says Marisa Orfei, Executive Director of the AEF. “It’s the first time in two years that we’re able to have an in-person awards ceremony and we can’t wait to gather as a community to celebrate environmental excellence in Alberta.”

The shortlist for the 31st Annual Emerald Awards can be found here.

###

The AEF is our province’s environmental good-news storytellers. What began as the Emerald Awards in 1992 has evolved into a 12-month conversation. They have expanded their capacity and programming into a robust communications strategy that showcases our province’s environmental achievements, and funding opportunities that educate and empower Alberta’s next generation. This progression allows for a larger positive environmental impact that benefits individuals and communities all across our province. This work is made possible through the generous support of sponsors and donors who are dedicated to creating a bright future for our province and planet.
