Interest in native plant gardening and restoration is growing across Alberta, but access to locally appropriate plants and seeds remains a major barrier. Without reliable sources and guidance, planting projects can be delayed, less effective, or rely on species that are not well-suited to local conditions.
The Alberta Native Plant Council is addressing this gap by connecting Albertans with trusted suppliers and practical tools to support native planting projects. Their publicly accessible database and interactive map help users find reputable suppliers, while additional resources provide guidance, inspiration, and step-by-step support for projects of all sizes.
Since launching its interactive map in 2025, the resource has reached more than 16,000 people, helping drive the adoption of native plants across the province.
