For many homeowners and businesses, the cost of energy efficiency upgrades can be a major barrier. Improvements like insulation, solar panels, or heating system upgrades often require significant upfront investment, making them out of reach even when they would save money over time.
The Clean Energy Improvement Program, led by Alberta Municipalities, removes this barrier by offering flexible, long-term financing for energy upgrades. Property owners can access up to 100 percent of project costs, with repayment made through property taxes rather than traditional loans. The financing is tied to the property, allowing benefits to carry forward to future owners.
Since its launch, the program has supported more than 600 projects across 27 municipalities and enabled over $83 million in upgrades. These projects have reduced energy use, lowered emissions, created local jobs, and improved the comfort and value of homes and businesses across Alberta.
