As Normandeau School expanded to serve students from Kindergarten through Grade 8, gaps in hands-on learning emerged, leaving many students without opportunities to explore real-world environmental solutions.
The Come Grow With Us Passive Solar Greenhouse was created to address these challenges, offering a living classroom where students engage directly with food production, environmental systems, and low-impact design. Built to operate without traditional heating or cooling, the greenhouse uses solar and geothermal systems to maintain growing conditions while significantly reducing energy use. Integrated into the school day, it ensures all students can participate in applied, curriculum-based learning.
Since opening in 2023, over 1,200 students have engaged in hands-on learning that connects science, food literacy, and environmental stewardship. Students see the impact of low-carbon design, renewable energy, and sustainable food production firsthand, turning abstract concepts into tangible, actionable skills.
