The Bow River Basin Council’s State of the Bow River Watershed Report is a groundbreaking data-driven tool designed to guide sustainable water management and environmental stewardship across the Bow River Basin. This interactive, living document provides accessible, up-to-date insights into the health of the watershed, equipping communities, policymakers, and researchers with the knowledge needed to protect Alberta’s most vital water resources.

Released in December 2024, the report compiles decades of research, monitoring, and community collaboration into an easy-to-navigate format, featuring 13 comprehensive chapters, 22 sub-watershed summaries, and over 400 maps and data layers. Covering key environmental indicators such as water quality, riparian health, climate change impacts, biodiversity, and groundwater trends, the report offers a clear snapshot of challenges and opportunities facing the watershed today.

With over 3,500 views in its first few months, the report has already engaged thousands of Albertans, sparking dialogue and influencing local and regional water management decisions. Its innovative online format allows for continuous updates, ensuring that the most current science is available to support evidence-based policymaking, land-use planning, and conservation strategies.
