Dr. Bonnie Shapiro

Dr. Shapiro has been an enthusiastic and passionate Science and Environmental Educator in the Province of Alberta for many years. She has provided tireless and committed support to promote environmental excellence through inspirational advisement and work with a generation of student teachers, practicing educators, hundreds of graduate students and members of the Alberta and Canadian Environmental Education Community. She has developed outstanding university courses, award-winning curriculum materials, and has presented and hosted numerous workshops, dialogue sessions and Research Symposia focusing on Environmental Education. Through her extensive research and many conference presentations, Dr. Shapiro has contributed nationally and internationally to the scholarship of teaching and learning in the field. As Consulting Editor for the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education (CJEE), the Journal of Environmental Education (JEE- International) and numerous other education journals, she continues to support the work of others.  Most recently Dr. Shapiro has shown outstanding leadership to initiate, design and champion the innovative new Graduate Certificate Program, Education for the Environment, at the University of Calgary.

The students and colleagues she has come in contact with have benefitted through her unfailing support and encouragement and the sense of community she strives to build.  Many of her former students are leaders in the Environmental Education community.
