For many homeowners and businesses, the upfront cost of energy efficiency upgrades can be a challenge. Improvements like insulation, solar PV systems, or heating system upgrades often require a significant investment even though they can lower energy bills and improve comfort over time.
The Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP), administered by Alberta Municipalities, offers a flexible way to pay for these upgrades. CEIP provides access to long-term financing for up to 100% of project costs, with repayment made through the property tax bill. Because the financing is tied to the property, it can stay with the property if it’s sold.
Since launching, CEIP has supported more than 1,000 completed projects across 27 active municipalities, with over $80 million in financing accessed. These projects are helping property owners reduce energy use, lower emissions, and improve the comfort and value of their homes and buildings, while supporting local jobs across Alberta.
