Backroads Reclamation is transforming how Canada manages construction and demolition (C&D) waste by rescuing wood destined for landfills and converting it into high-value, second-use products. Driven by a vision to lead Canada’s transition to a circular economy, the company is building a scalable, sustainable supply chain for reclaimed wood—preserving materials from Canada’s first-generation structures and reintegrating them into the modern built environment.

Since its inception, Backroads Reclamation has diverted ~200 metric tonnes of wood waste from landfill, preventing approximately 350 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions.

Based on current scaling, the initiative aims to divert an additional 6,033 tonnes over the next three years—avoiding more than 10,500 tonnes of CO₂e emissions. That’s equivalent to removing over 2,000 passenger vehicles from the road each year. Through its innovative model of recovery, processing, and reintegration, Backroads is unlocking the environmental and economic potential of Canada’s architectural wood heritage.
