Through its High-Efficiency Homes for Indigenous Communities initiative, Trade Winds to Success is transforming lives by providing Indigenous students with hands-on construction training while building energy-efficient homes for communities in need. This Indigenous-led non-profit is tackling both the housing crisis and employment barriers by equipping students with real-world skills in sustainable construction, setting them on a path toward long-term careers in the trades.
Since launching its Residential Construction Program, Trade Winds has:
- Built and gifted 15 high-efficiency homes to Indigenous communities across Alberta.
- Designed net-zero-ready homes with solar panel wiring, high R-value insulation, LED lighting, and air purification systems to improve energy efficiency, air quality, and climate resilience.
- Trained over 3,000 Indigenous students, with 80% securing employment in the trades after graduation.
- Provided fire-resistant housing to help communities recover from devastating wildfires, including Little Red River Cree Nation, which lost 85 structures in 2023.
