The Recipient
Linda Wight is a teacher at Brightview Elementary School, who has initiated clubs, projects, and activities to educate students and members of Brightview’s community about the environment. She has taught students about alternative energy through innovative projects such as building solar ovens and constructing wind balloons and pinwheels. To help students learn more about where their food comes from, Ms. Wight took part in classroom gardening projects where students planted herbs and vegetables and harvested them at the end of the year.
One of her most unique projects however was the Sharing Circle, which was a green space designed by Linda outside the front of the school, and landscaped with the help of every student at Brightview. The area is used by several school groups and for many official school ceremonies and helps students learn about respect and responsibility for the environment.
