Emerald Day - Road Show

The Alberta Emerald Foundation strives to recognize, celebrate and inspire environmental excellence in our province.  Our flagship program, the Emerald Awards, is highly regarded as a premiere recognition event in our province, with categories that recognize all levels of work ranging from youth to community groups to business.

With the Emerald Awards firmly established, the Alberta Emerald Foundation is working to share more stories from the Emerald Awards program and in turn, inspire action from more Albertans.

Emerald Day 2012

The Emerald Day program will see the Emerald Awards travel to communities across the province, where we will facilitate the sharing of environmental success stories as well as the discussion of environmental opportunities and challenges in each region.

Local Emerald Awards finalists and recipients will be involved, allowing them an opportunity to share their leading environmental work with members of their communities.  Additionally, local organizations and governments will be invited to share information about their good work through displays and networking.

The Alberta Emerald Foundation is pleased to have partnered with AACTI (Alberta Association of Colleges and Technical Institutes) in working to connect with regional post-secondary institutions in hosting these sessions.

The Emerald Day program launched in February 2012 with our first two stops:

Grande Prairie: Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Presented by  CN and Hosted by Grande Prairie Regional College

Red Deer: Friday, February 3, 2012

Presented by Servus Credit Union and Hosted by Red Deer College

With special thanks to Rethink Red Deer for their assistance

We hope to visit other communities later this year and into the future.

We are thrilled to welcome Simon Jackson who is the Founder and Executive Director of the Spirit Bear Youth Coalition as our keynote speaker.  Honoured by Time Magazine as one of Sixty Heroes for the Planet, Simon will share his inspiring message of the power of youth.

We know that positive reinforcement through recognition of quality environmental work as well as the sharing of these stories makes the difference in how future generations will experience Alberta.  Through the Emerald Community Dialogue Series, we hope to reach many Alberta regions and engage more Albertans in environmental stewardship.
